How do I get my dog to stop begging when someone has food?

well i told my parents is there fault she does it, she doesn’t do it to me or my boyfriend just everyone else and i get sick hearing them complain about it. should i continue telling them the same thing, cuz they do it to there dogs, they also beg.

Whatever you do don’t give your dog the food. Teach the dog to be off the couch when your eating or lay down. Ignoring is also important like Irene said. But I know, my mom will give my dog food, but I tell her to not do that. It takes team work. If she really wants to give the dog scraps save them for later after you guys eat. Putting it in her own bowl of dog food at a different time. If the begging is bad at the table, put the dog in another room with her own dogfood.

i know and thats what i did but when im working or not home i can’t stop them from doing it. i mean its gotten to the point where she will put her head on my dads knee when he’s eating. i know she knows better because she won’t do it for me and my bf. i think they should reinforce it if it bothers them its there fault and they refuse to listen.

thanks =) i mean i will be much easier when we have our own place because she knows that we won’t give her any whilst we are eatting and just lays down beside us on the floor and gives us the puppy eyes lol

I do that with my basset and it works, you shouldn’t even be giving them attention. I don’t even mention her when she begs. It does work.

its not me she begs for though, she begs for my parents and brothers, because they feed her while they eat, and they complain, and i told them what you told me and they continue doing it, also i told them to stop sneaking their crap snacks to her like pringles and such, its not necessary and she has a food in her bowl if she’s hungry.

If they continue to do it then she isn’t going to stop regardless of what you try. Everyone has to reinforce the good behaviour.

i am very stern about it with everyone. but i guess if she doesn’t beg for me then its their problem when she does it for them right?
