Are there any disadvantages to not getting the chicken pox and is there any specific reason I haven't gotten it?

I still haven’t gotten the chicken pox and it scares me that many many people have said if I get it when I’m older, I’ll die from it. I’m also wondering if it’s possible I’ll never get it.

Answer #1

The only disadvantage is now your more likely to get them if you go around a person who has them, or have children who get them in the future. They are also alot harder to deal with and more aggrivating when your older. Its extremely rare to die from the chicken pox now a days though with all the medicines we have.

Answer #2

It is possible for someone to never get the chicken pox, but its rare for that to happen. I have never gotten the chicken pox before, and I really don’t think it’s going to be hazardous to my health. You can die from it if your old, but if you have never gotten it before you may never get.

Answer #3

If you dont get chicken pox as a child, you could get something called shingles, which is very, very painful, as an adult. That’s why when one kid gets chicken pox the mother usually calls up all her friends who are parents and they have a chicken pox “party”. Here’s two links for more on shingles. http://funadvice.com/r/14k84b334ad http://funadvice.com/r/3l76qmmoer It appears that shingles arent common really, but I’d still hate to get that.

Answer #4

Perhaps you’ve had the vaccination?

Answer #5

Most people are vaccinated for chicken pox these days. Some people refuse vaccinations for their kids for religious or pseudo-scientific reasons; these are the cases where people host chicken pox parties to infect and grant lifetime immunity to other unvaccinated kids.

The reason for chicken pox parties is because this disease is more severe for adults than for kids so it is best gotten out of way young.

After exposure to the virus that causes chicken pox people carry the virus for the rest of their lives but typically it remains dormant Shingles is what happens if the dormant virus reactivates; it can no longer cause chicken pox but it can cause areas of skin to inflame and become painful or numb. The pain or numbness can be permanent and if eyes or ears are affected it can cause vision or hearing loss. The virus can be reactivated by anemia, cancer, chemotherapy, pregnancy, AIDS, or it can occur spontaneously. The chicken pox vaccine contains a weakened live virus so people who are vaccinated can still get shingles but they typically have milder cases.

My wife got shingles while pregnant with our daughter and has a spot on her back that is still painful.
