can I become a nurse in NYS with a class B felony?

hello everyone! I hope someone can shed some light on my problem without judgement. I recently was convicted of a class B felony for drugs. I really have a passion for nursing and I know I made a mistake but it’s always been my dream. it is the only charge I have ever had. another problem is I was sentenced to 5years felony probation. I recieved these charges because I thought I was in love and tried to protect my man (I know dumb choice) but I have always worked as a cna before this and I started going to college for LPN. I would do anything to be able to follow my dreams. is there still hope or should I just give it up? I don”t care if it takes years I will wait. I’m only 23 years old. I have a son and I want to have a career to take care of him. somebody please if you know anything to help me share it

well honestly I don’t think it will stop you from getting into any schools but afterwards trying to land a good job they will do a criminal background and that might deter them from hiring you, but if your honest and explain it was a stupid thing that you did they may still hire you. my wife is a nurse and she had to get a lot of stuff expunged off her record but those were just misdeamenors and now she just finished her rn program. your best bet is to consult with the school in your state and find out if it will mess things up for you.

good luck with your passion for nursing, I wish you all the best with it. I understand that you were young and it was something stupid that you did, hopefully they will understand that too.

I dont know anything about nursing or felony laws etc, but you need to follow this dream! do whatever you can. you have to really work for it, and since you have a son to support, you will always have the need to work.

you have a fabulous life ahead of you, just a rocky start. you can do anything.
