Can a cop pull me over for no reason?

So I was driving down a road in my town when a cop started to follow me. When he eventually pulled me over it was 7 miles down the road. Is this legal??? Can a cop really follow you for 7 miles and when I got pulled over he said it was b/c I was swerving when I was really driving perfectly.

I drive a sports car and I get followed by the police all the time; once a cop followed me over 10 miles just hoping I would do something illegal, I turned into my alley and I think he thought I was trying to give him the slip because after I turned he raced off down the road to where the alley lets out. A friend of mine drove a beat up old car and his commute to and from work took him through some ritzy neighborhoods and he got followed and pulled over all the time. They always made up some crap about him swerving or driving eratically. I understand that blacks get followed and pulled over so much that they have a term for it, “driving while black.”

It is harassment but it always boils down to your word against the cop’s. The cop can claim he was following you for a reason and it comes down to your word against his and most jurors tend to believe the cop.

i think it is only legal for an officer to follow you for TWO miles! It might depend on the state tho. =)

Wow fixcomm, you’re a Peace Officer? Why is you grammar so bad? Police Officers can pull you over for any reason, so there’s no such thing as “for no reason”. It could be that the officer noticed a crack in your wind shield or tail lamp out or expired tags. Or cause he thought he saw you without a seat belt on. But most of those reasons are sometimes used as a reason or another, specially if they are on the lookout for a particular car or person.

Ok, I go to the club with two friends and the club was packed didn’t let us in. Well, we decide to go to another club as I was walking with friends, one of them tells me to watch out because a CHP was driving to close to the door where I was about to open (backseat) then as they drive by I do the peace sign with my hands and say “See Ya” just a comment right? well CHP car stops puts the yellow lights and backs up to our car burning rubber(weird) then stops and waits for us to pull out, then follows the car we where in. At this point my friends start to tell me that perhaps I shouldn’t have said any comments, but in reality I didn’t say anything wrong, all I said was “See Ya” as an See you later! well, unfortunately for them my friends and I are Peace Officers as well. They followed us for about two blocks ran our plates as we were driving “we know they did”. Plantes are blocked allowed for California Peace Officers then CHP just made a turn and didn’t bother us anymore… honestly they just waited for us to make a little mistake and they were going to pull us over. Perhaps that CHP officer and his partner were having a bad night.. this is in Sacramento, Ca. So it could happen even to an off duty peace officer!. :)

I have been pulled over twice for little reasons. once for having a very small item hanging from my rear view mirror, when I had some old guy right on the side of me with his dog on his lap and some chick in front of me with something large hanging from her mirror. the second time, which was today, got pulled over for “turning on my turn signal too late”. I turned it on at least 100 feet befor my turn. he followed me for about 2 blocks I stopped in front of a house for sale my buddie told me about to look at it but was to run do so drove on, followed for another block or so then finally turned on his lights. both times they asked weather I have drugs, warants or have been arrested and search me. no of course. give me a warning and are on their way. I think they just pull over people that LOOK like they might be up to no good. the times I got a ticket, for good reasons, I was never asked about drugs, warrants or searched.
