calorie intake? Can this be right?

I did one of those “how many daily calories do I need” calculators and it said I needed 3,995 calories. Can this be right? I mean I exercise almost 3 hours a day but that number is pretty big and dont even think I can eat that much without thinking im going to gain weight…if I dont eat that much will my energy levels go down? will I gain weight?

I was reading that Lance Armstrong measured his food and based on how much he trained he ate just the right amount. Perhaps to be an athlete at his level you have to count calories like that.

When I was a competitive bike racer I thought nothing of eating 4,000 kcal in a single meal. Like I mentioned in an email, when I tried cutting back it did negatively affect my performance. I think that a certain level of competition it may be necessary to approach nutrition the way Lance Armstrong did but he has a team of trainers and nutritionists helping him. Doing it on your own could be asking for trouble.

I’d say you need an objective opinion on your body composition. If you are not lean enough than perhaps you could find some performance by slimming down. I’d be careful here because when you are training as seriously as you do cutting your intake could cause to get slower instead of faster. You need to give your body the fuel it needs.

diet is really important, but calories (Kcal) dont play as big a part in it as most people think. Dramaqueen is kind of right when he says eat what ya want. If your a really active althlete. then 4k of Kcal is ok. Professional Bodybuilders try to get 9k!!

If you dont hit your reccomended Kcal daily intake then you will lose weight! but dont put too much faith in those calculators. If ya want to increase your speed then do Plyometric and speed Training!!
