You can use bottled water if you add a water cleanser (you can buy them at any pet store you add a few drops and it purifys the water right away) or if you leave it in an open bowl or pot for a day. Bottled water has a lot of chlorine and other chemicals so you have to leave that water out so that the harmful chemicals can evaporate.

If he gets fin rot you will know, sections of his fins will begin disintegrating and his tail will get all choppy looking. He will also act very tired and not be very active because he is sick. Fin rot is easily treated with pet store medication. Sometimes betta will rip their tails on plastic plants though so if you see a little tear don’t worry unless it starts getting bigger.

If his tail is translucent in an area that is fine, it is probably just how his fins look, you would be surprised all the colors bettas can come in! You can find completely white ones with all transparent fins from breeders.

It is great that you are getting him a bigger tank, bettas need at least a half gallon of water to survive but they do really well and are really happy in 1 gallon to 10 gallon tanks.

Bettas like still water so it is better if there is no filter or air pump. Because there is no filter try to change the water frequently because the water in the tank gets toxic from their waste. Whenever you do water changes make sure you purify the new water you are putting into the tank by letting it sit out for a few days or by buying water cleanser.

Their favorite common food to find at pet stores are freeze dried worms, most bettas will eat the little betta pellets but they really love freeze dried worms and larvae because in the wild they eat mosquito larvae and other small insects. I highly suggest blood worms.

You will know your betta is happy if he is very active and swims about a lot. If he is really content he will blow bubbles on the surface of the water and they will all clump up together. This is called a bubble nest. If he builds one of these he is claiming his territory and inviting females to mate.

Another thing that is good for your betta is to put a mirror up to his tank for about 15 to 30 minutes a day so that he flares up and gets angry. This is great exercise for him.

Good luck with Felix!
