Is chivalry dead?

My wife has her single girlfriends, and they tell her some of the things these men do. Does any men out there still pay the womens way, open door, and be a total a-hole as I have heard her friends talk about.

Answer #8

Chivalry isnt dead, its definatly dying out and becoming less important to men, but its still around. You also have to remember that there are women now a days who dont want men opening their doors anymore, dont want the men paying anymore, etc. There are women who view it as being the weaker sex and try and be more independant now. If you ever read men and womens magazines youll also see the advice they are giving now is telling men that women dont like these things anymore. I personally dont mind when my fiance opens the door and pays, i dont expect it though and can open a door for myself or even for him occasionaly.

Answer #9

i still open doors for a woman and allow her to enter first- even if i don’t know them- that is simply how i was raised, i have been known to automatically move in front of a female during a dangerous situation to protect them- so as long as i am alive chivalry will remain alive.

Answer #10

Here’s the thing. You take the good with the bad. With chivalry comes the idea that women are weak and helpless and need men to take care of them. It’s a delicate balance where men are courteous but also able to give women the respect they deserve. Quite frankly, I’ll take respect and an acknowledgment of equality over chivalry any day. But it is nice when a guy is able to balance both out.

Answer #11

Well I do see your point, but I have found that most women are not as strong as men, and when we where a younger couple, I have had to defend my wife physically for others. Women are as smart and as capable as any man, and some of them are stronger “Not that I would ever data a muscle bound women”, but for most part men are stronger, and I do think it would be my place to defend my wife from physical anguish when I can.

Answer #12

Good Deal, but you are still old school, I am talking about the young early twenties guys these days.

Answer #13

Well just because I open the door for my wife, this does not make her the weaker sex. She is a very successful women and CEO. Plus she is the mother of my two boys, for that I feel she is the stronger sex. I feel the least I can do is open a door, or pull out her chair for her. This is the way I show her I appreciate her, it is not meant to show “Me Man, You Women” I am the stronger sex. Really, how hard is it to open a door. :)
