Why is god refered to as a man?

Christianity reflecting the society where it originated is a matriarchal religion. Many early religions were matriarchal however.

well the first person he made was Adam, which was a man, so I would think he made Adam as an image of himself, then changed Eve around a bit so they could have kids. And when the Bible says in his image, he also made Eve in His image, for the most part anyway. hair, face, eyes, mouth, lips, legs, arms, hands, heart, etc,.

Thats what I think too, but then people tell me im not a good christian for it. :( I believe in god and jesus, just the bible and the church irritate me. With the way they act about it. :(

I am christian but only so because I believe if people didnt have some set of rules or guidelines to live by (ex. the bible) then this whole planet would be doomed. I dont think the bible was meant to be taken literally as fact, just to point people in the right direction.

well its likley that men created the theory of the christian god, not women and men like to see and call everything else around them exept for women, cars and boats other men and the fact that long ago men made women worship them and they treated them unfairy and didnt give them the same rights as they had so it makes sense… to men to women it just makes most of them realise that times have changed, they have the same rights and can give whatever god they choose to beleive in whatever gender they wish as for me, im a proud athiest and dont beleive in any god

Thank you, that makes more sense to me now. I wish they taught more things like that in church then maybe people would understand better. My school is an all girl catholic school and we have a religion class three times a week but they never teach us anything about the bible. We had a bible class only once in all the times I can remember. Thats why I dont know anything. Reading it by myself, its kind of impossible to understand properly.

God is a spirit, and the bible says that no man has ever seen him, however, it also says that when we saw Christ we saw God.

It also says that God & Christ are one. This may be confusing for now, but, the more you learn about God, the more you will understand it.

God is known in the male gender, however, he is everything we have need of, whether it be mother, father, sister, brother, friend, counselor, lover of our soul, he is our all in all, and can minister to any need we have.

As for your faith, I am praying that it will not fail, also, the bible says that Christ is praying for you, and I will ask others to pray as well.

Pah, if god made man in his image, then what about the “beasts”? Didn’t it say that he made them in “our” image, too? Which would be weird, since I don’t recall seeing a mice perform some kind of ritual lately. And why are you so sure that it means spirtual image?

And, it’s confusing because it’s made up, and not supposed to be taken literally.
