When dogs go into labor does their water break?

Answer #1

When dogs go into labor, there are many signs, but the water sacs do not break early on in the labor, they usually break when the puppy is being born or very shortly before. The signs you are looking for are heavy panting, restlessness, no appetite, and a general “out of sorts” behavior. She may pass a mucousy discharge. She may want to dig at blankets trying to form a nest for the puppies. Labor in dogs can last a long time from the time you notice the first signs. If you know your dog, you will see the signs and then get ready. You will need to have some supplies ready and a safe warm, quiet place for the mama to settle down with her pups.

Answer #2

Yes, but not necessarily at the moment they go into labour.
