What's the best sport to lose weight rather quickly?

It’s almost the new year and every single year my resolution is to lose weight. This past year I’ve lost about 60 pounds, but I need to lose a whole lot more. I’m in college so, I barely have time to eat right and go to the gym like I used to but I’m going to try. Thing is I want to do a sport cause I’m a band geek and I’m not good in sports so I want to find one I’m good in. I’ve tried tennis, volleyball, swimming (but I’m not a good swimmer), and bowling…all no good. So…I was thinking about boxing. I’ve always wanted to box. Is that a good way to burn a bunch of calories? What are some other sports?

squash is a good sport and you can play on your own (hit the ball gainst the wall) :-). Also it is not that difficult to learn to play it (not speaking bout professional level here) and gives you a huge workout because you are running around a lot. Also half an hour a day is enough to lose weight and tone. Boxing is also a good way to burn calories.

Boxing is great, but I agree, soccer is good, too. Basketball could also be helpful.

If I were you, and this comes from experience, never a fat man, I have always loved getting

drunk on pints of lager, beer, cider, ale, etc! I love my booze bigstyle. So much so, that over time, my belly has fluctuated from big to medium… Let me stress that I am an active guy, who walks home from the public houses and cycles

to work. Normally the balance is okay, but I can never seem to shift the beergut.

Recently I started swimming. Along with everything else I did before I started swimming,

doing this is really helping. I’m going at least twice a week, but I always do as much as I

can in around an hour, and I always strived to do more than I did the last time. I have only

gone about twice a week since I started, and I really enjoy it now I find it relaxing and

rewarding. In fact I’d been working to my target to do 64 lengths in one hour, which I

recently achieved… This equals one mile, when swam in 25metre pool.

But, for my first time in the pool for years, after having been a heavy smoker for around ten

years. Althought lately, as I said, I had been an active guy. Out the bike everywhere, and

walking round town for hours and hours… Including the fact I have done double figures on

some of the highest highland munros! So I was okay on my first visit back, I managed

around thirty-five to forty minutes… I could do a few lengths, but not too much… I got really

sore arms at first after swimming. It was hard to get used to breathing, I was out of breath

at the end of each length and had to stop to rest!

But soon each time, aiming to swim a little further… even 1 length at a time, it started to

get easier…

I was really rusty so I downloaded the instructions from here;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/swimming/skills/newsid_2099000/2099612.stm

and it soon got me going properly - I really wanted to do it, so I put in a lot of effort to

improve. Now I am really happy with the results and am aiming to shave the minutes of the

hour it takes to swim a mile!

Good Luck!
