what is the promise land and broken promised land?
well, if you have ever listened to gospel music or spirituals, particularly those written by people of African descent, you will hear of a "promise land." this is generally referring to heaven. However, during slavery, these spirituals were used to convey two things: 1.) hope, saying that one day freedom would be achieved, and everyone could live in the "promise land", where they could all be free 2.) used to assist the underground railroad. When the songs were sung, it was to inform slaves that an escape attempt would be made that night. Anyone who wanted to get to the "promise land" should be aware.
However, it is also used when referring to people who have broken a promise. when someone is mad because of a broken promise, he might say "Well I guess I'll go join you in broken promise land" or "that was before you went to broken promise land." can also be used in reverse. "I liked you when you lived in promise land." (before the person broke the promise)
hope this helps
