It’s a joke religion that was created in response to one of the the Intelligent Design trials in America. It has become something of an icon of the atheist community because it pokes fun at all the silly ideas other religion have about the nature of the realms beyond our universe.
Mind you - I kinda wish there really were strippers and a beer volcano in the after life :)

Why would it be a joke any less than the Christian religion??? We both worship dieties that we cannot see. There is a book for both religions. We both pray to our gods. Really, what’s the difference?
