What if you are wrong?

Atheists are regularly asked by concerned faithful people: ‘what if you are wrong?’

Richard Dawkins once replied to that question, from a christian lady, with the words: ‘what if YOU are wrong about Allah? Or Thor? Or the Great Zuzu at the bottom at sea?

If I would be asked: ‘what if you are wrong?, I might answer: ‘then I’ll be scr*wed!’

But I think that I have never heard a reply by a religious person to the question: ‘what if you are wrong? And does it not bother you that you have wasted a large part of your life by worshipping and glorifying a myth?’

Answer #2

My response is “so what, you’re playing the lotto then? Don’t you think an omniscient god can see through that?”

Answer #3

*There’s STILL a third possibility. What if you’re worshiping the WRONG god?

same thing. I wouldnt care because I know nothing of the God in which I was supposed to “worship” so I just wouldnt care. id go where I was supposed to and that would be that.

I guess I just dont care for what I absolutely cannott change.

If a Christian is wrong, he is simply Dead - when dead, your brain is not functioning so there’d be no thought reflection - If an athiest is wrong, they indeed will have a rude, sobering awakening/realization - you cited Richard Dawkins, I’ll cite the Lord Jesus Christ: “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 10 : 33

There really is no pleasing this topic. Truth is we could all be but the speck on another planet like on Orton ears a ohw. I could be god…or I could be the flying dutch-man! Truth is whether your wrong or not is point of view.

Let’s just give the “Christians VS the (rest of the world?) Including other Christians.) a rest. f you look at ANY bible or book similar they not only contradict themselves all over the place but they all think they are right.

Answer #7

The truth is anyone can think anyone else is wrong…and you know with the Cristian belief God is the only one living…you dont have to go to a tomb and worship him because hes alive you can worship him wherever you want to..and I know that he exists!!! So if I was asked that question I would happily answer “I know that Im not because I talk tomy god everyday, and he replies back to me”

“If a Christian is wrong, he is simply Dead - when dead, your brain is not functioning so there’d be no thought reflection - If an athiest is wrong, they indeed will have a rude, sobering awakening/realization”

That’s a false dichotomy. It’s not the christian god or none - if you allow the possibility that there is a god, you have to allow the possibility of different gods. Perhaps there is a god, he’s not the christian one, and he hates anyone who worships the wrong god far more than anyone who worships no god. Perhaps there’s a god who is indifferent to belief, or one that approves of people who reason rationally rather than basing things on faith.

Well if we are wrong, we will never know, since atheists believe, what? that nothing will happen when you will die? that there is no such thing as a soul and if there is it dies with your physical? I think that if we were wrong [christians] It wouldnt matter really, I wouldnt be mad that I was “worshipping a myth” I mean at least I had something to live for, something to base my decisions I made off of, and maybe religion was that one thing that comforted me when I was down, and guided me through life.

If I found out God wasnt real when I died, I wouldnt mind, because than I would know that I overcame my problems alone and that I infact was a strong individual, and whether or not my strength was fictionaly based wouldnt matter because the point is that it was there. And I think there are worse things I could “Waste my life on” than a myth.

thats my answer.

well what if catholics christains or what ever religion is wrong il say huh I was wrong im an atheist and when I see god or jesus next to me talking ill say well I was wrong simple as that

Answer #11

Or rather something claiming to BE your god it talking back, I used to be a “christian” and learned that nothing was as it seems a few years back from a dream.

The world and what happened way back then is NOTHING like it seems in the bible the way things are made to seem in it. nothing was a simple as shown in the bible.

Now if you asked me “does got speak to you?” Yes he does but unfortunately people tend to hear what they want to hear. There’s no getting around that, You will only see, understand, feel, learn and know what you want to.

It’s a scary SCARY place that god would like you to be but it’s SO rewarding! It’s worth every last uncomfortable feeling that you would have,

And I’m going to say this now! Unfortunately the REASON it will be scary is because it’s the OPPOSITE of what the church says and people today have been so doctrinised that it’s Pathetic.

Christians tend to think that god want us to go to church every Sunday and give money to the church (and sometimes he does) but he does not CARE whether or not you go to church as long as your communicating with him.

Sadly and I can say this from experience Christians are less christian like than Buddha worshipers on a lot of accounts!

What is with all the Christians getting so upset and yelling or screaming or raising there voice at any one who would be as to change something they think?

rant over.

This is all such silliness. It is not a matter of choice. I don’t choose to not believe. Either you do or you don’t. I could no more believe in the christian god (or any other), than a christian could believe in zues, odin, or the flying spaghetti monster. I could “choose” to go through the motions, attend services, recite prayers. But wouldn’t god know I was pretending and really didn’t believe?

So if it is really not a choice, are christians really saying that this loving god of theirs is casting people into hell over something they can’t even help?
