How is it wrong by going to a different church?

I was born and raised catholic. My family doesnt go to church on sundays that often anymore. But for a year a I have been singing in a amazing church choir at a presbyterain church and loving it! But it has raised a couple eye brows with some members of my family. So am I doing something wrong.

Answer #1

I’m in a stict catholic school and they said there’s nothing wrong about that.

Answer #2

I don’t think God is Catholic. He’s probably not Presbyterian nor Baptist either. Whenever we humans try to squeeze him into one of our boxes, He has this remarkable ability to pop up somewhere different. He resists all our efforts to place a label on Him.

Therefore, find Him in the church where you are most comfortable. But look for Him other places as well. See His Image in the faces of your friends and acquaintances. Watch puppies being born, and see God smiling. Take a drive through the mountains, and see Him there. Or better yet, grab a backpack, leave the car behind, and hike into those mountains a few miles. Set up a small tent, build a campfire and stay overnight, and experience Him there with you. Take a walk through a beautiful flower garden, and learn how much He must love color … because He used so much of it in His creation.

God bless.

Answer #3

You are not doing anything wrong if you find peace in the Reformed Church, but you may eventually cease thereby to be a Catholic, you must choose whether you believe in the Catholic Apostolic Church and works or in the doctrines of predestination, grace, and the elect of Calvin and Knox who upbraided the monarchs and appealed that the Vulgate might be in the tongue of the people, whose followers´ legs were crushed in the Scotch torture instrument the “boot” that the Word might be spoken in the tongue of the people without artificial prayers, and who condemned witchcraft and fornicators.

Answer #4

Why would they care? Why would you care if they care? If it makes you happy and it doesn’t involve abusing someone else against their will, then it’s ok.

Answer #5

You are not doing anything wrong, that’s for sure. Ask yourself a question, do you live for yourself or do you live for someone else? If you live for yourself then your happiness is what matters. Do what you love. Religion is really a subject that I think no one can force on anyone. Even not family members. Everyone should find their own path. “Anyone who gives you a belief system is your enemy” - Osho. You need to figure out what you like yourself. No one can really make any decisions for you. But you’re not doing anything wrong, remember that.

Answer #6

Anything you do that doesnt conform to their strict sense of right and wrong (the right church, the right way to pray or worship, the right people to be around with) is going to raise eyebrows. Welcome to the world of families. Ignore them… You’re not doing anything wrong. They should just be grateful you’re not like an atheistic, immoral, devil worshipping, heathen!

Answer #7

if both churches beleive in the exact same god (which I assume they would) then there is no problem

Answer #8

I think that your family has certain expectations of you, to continue to practise Catholicism. At the same time you don;t have to please them because you’re all praying to the same God. And if you are enjoying your new church then continue to God, doesn’t make you any less of a person.

Answer #9

I’m in a strict catholic school,if you forget one book you have an 2 hour detention.you didn’t do anything wrong .

Answer #10

your religion or faith is YOUR choice. Nothing wrong with singing in a different church which probably praise the same god anyway.

Answer #11

I don’t think so…If it makes you happy then you should do it :) Hope I Helped

Answer #12

I personally don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. It makes you happy, your family shouldn’t be able to decide what you should or should not believe in.

Answer #13

try just talking to him. How do we communicate with God? Through his word. Try getting the dust off the bible and see how God speaks to you.I have never seen God smile when dogs were born. Do as god has commanded and THEN see him smile. Our works are as filthy rags, Thats biblical
