What do I have to learn in college to work in a primary school?

What sort of things will I be learning in college if I want to work in a primary school?

I’m planning on working in the primary school I went :) I was just wondering what sort of courses do you do in college so your able to work in a school? I’m not planning on becoming a teacher - just an assistant really. I’m unsure of what things I would need to learn about. Also, how long would I have to stay in college for?

I dont know if you need a degree to become an assistant. You need to talk to your school, they may have different requirements. Some dont require degrees, some may only need an associates degree (2 years). If you’re going to college why not just get a teaching degree? You’ll be earning more money, and that will add up over the rest of your life… Teachers barely earn enough money to support themselves, I dont know how it is possible to survive on an assistants salary long term… In college, you do basic courses (math, english, a language, social sciences, a science, etc), as well as your courses for your major. I’m not entirely sure what that would include, I guess it depends on your major, but you might be taking child development classes, classes on working with kids, how to teach etc…
