What causes bowel movements after drinking too much milk?

What causes bowel movements after drinking too much milk? I know this is a graphic question but, I had some milk earlier and I had too much. It always seems to cause bowel movements for me for some reason and I don’t know why. What’s the cause? Just curious

Answer #1

Actually too much milk usually causes constipation from what I know.. Perhaps you need to switch milk types/brands.

Answer #2

you might be lactose intolerant.

The other answers make no sense. The questioner just said he/she had a bowel movement after drinking a lot of milk. Bowel movements are GOOD, for gosh sakes! I mean, FOOD causes bowel movements. That doesnt mean your allergic to food. Water can cause bowel movements. Milk has a lot of water in it. Milk has things like tryptophan that might relax your body and let it do what it needs to do.

Visit http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2009-08-30-lactose-intolerance_N.htm and read all about why 60% of adults cannot digest milk, and thus are lactose intolerant.

I drink 2 quarts of milk a day to gain weight and I am am lactose intolerant. I take lactase pills to allow my body to digest the sugar in milk, lactose, as they provide the enzyme that does so, lactase.

I think I need 2 lactase pills with every 16 oz of milk because with one pill I still have a bowel movement within one hour of consuming milk. It has a signature foul smell and I feel cramping and bloating with normal consumption of milk.

Milk contains a sugar known as lactose. When you drink too much of it, it is too much for your body to handle so it can make you have excessive bowel movements directly after.

It is possible that you are lactose intolerant. This means that your body can’t digest the lactose properly. You may need to either switch to lactose free milk or take a lactose pills that will help you digest the lactose in the milk.
