What are some ways to improve poetry writing skills?

I think I am a pretty good writter, and so do my peers. I really enjoy writting poetry but I want to get better at it so I can be good at what I love. What are some ways to do that?

Answer #1

Try reading some more poetry and you could pick up techniques.

A good poetry book I’d reccomend is:

Cool Gardens by Serj Tankian

He is pretty talented, and also listen to what dani says aswell- get in touch with your nature side, it’ll help. Oh, and you don’t need to rhyme with poetry, just write what you feel is good.

It’s kind of hard if you don’t give us a sample to tell you what you can do to improve.

I usually go to PTG(Poetry Tag Group) What you do is tag someone with a topic, they write about it, then they tag someone else with another topic. It’s kind of fun, and can be challanging. What you can do is ask people to give you topics and write about them in a given amount of time, lets say 10-20 minuets top, then if you feel it’s a good poem improve it.

I use to go to another chat group years ago in which the lead would send pictures and we had a week to a month to write on it. I’ld ususally try to tell the tale of the pitcure rather than just describe it in a poem most of the time. Maybe you can look at pictures and maybe 1, or a few will inspire you.

Perhaps you can do the same with music, ect.

Another thing to do is expand your vocab
