Thomas the train recall, I need to throw them away right?

Since thomas the train was recalled, I need to throw away my kids train set, right? They haven’t played with it for about a year or so, however, for a long time that was one of their favorite toys. I still can’t believe that the thomas the train sets had lead in them! Did you throw yours away too?

this was only for the newer toys

This is a MAJOR failure of our government to PROTECT US. Isnt that why we are paying taxes? When the Government that we inherently begin to trust as children fails our children so badly, it seems there needs to be a MAJOR reassessment by our lawmakers.

The consumer products safety board is grossly understaffed based on the number of toys that make it into the US… they are advertising that they have inspectors at 10 import sites… HOW RIDICULOUS!!!

I’m SURE there are HUNDREDS! PROTECT YOUR KIDS and WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN!!! MAKE SURE THEY KNOW!!!

THE CHINESE ARE POISONING OUR KIDS!!!

When their kids get poisoned - they EXECUTE PEOPLE!!! WHEN its our kids - not even a slap on the wrist!

THERE SHOULD BE A LAW!!! WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN!

There’s a couple options–the toy manufacturer may offer a voucher for a new toy and an option to return the toy to them for proper disposal. If you would rather throw the toy away, I recommend you contacting your local public health department, normal disposal of toys with lead can lead to eventual environmental issues, they should be able to help you on what to exactly do. I looked around a couple websites and they recommend that you not burn the toys. If you’re concerned your child(ren) have been exposed you can contact their pediatrician to perform a simple test that involves a finger or heel prick, and I believe it’s recommended that children get routinely tested for the presence of lead yearly. The main concern here is not really an acute issue but rather chronic or long-term when children chew on toys for an extended period of time–normal use (barring that the child hasn’t chewed on the toy) shouldn’t affect a child’s health, but having their lead level checked will help. Take care. :-) -S

If it was one of their favorite toys I understand how it’s hard to get rid of it, but for their health I think the choice is obvious… Get rid of them. That is best since you want the best for the kids. Also if you have pets I would want to get rid of them in case the animals get a hold of them. Good Question. Hope I helped. =D

Answer #5

Wow that is crazy!!! I would never have guessed. I could understand if they still did when I played with them when I was verrry little, but now?! Absolutely ridiculous. Yes I’d get rid of them right away. Kids are so delicate, and lead is extremely harmful to babies and adults alike. Also keep them out of reach from the family pet if you have any.

Thanks, they never chewed on their thomas the tank engine toys, but I’ll definitely contact the local waste department before tossing them in the bin.
