The 'Lost Tomb of Jesus'

What do people think about the alleged discovery of the ‘Lost tomb of Jesus’?

A quick search on google will give you lots of info on this ‘discovery’.

As someone with a BA in Archaeology, I look for facts and evidence to support historical events whereas most christians rely on faith or their own definition of facts.

While I admit that what is judge as ‘fact’ will be subjective in itself, I was particulary interested in the discoveries and the debate around these finds and if proven, how this would effect how christianity is viewed.

Specifically, if Jesus was buried in a tomb and his body remained there, the confliction with the bible story that he ascended up to heaven.

Would christians maybe accept a spiritual assension to heaven rather than a physical one whereby the body of Jesus remained on earth to be buried?

Every force is at work to try to destroy faith, from the face of the earth, to destroy all mention of God. In any way possible. Many will be deceived …

As a Christian, I choose to believe the bible, and it says that the grave clothes were left in the tomb… that the body was gone…

also, that Jesus assended into heaven, and I believe that means in bodily form, however, he did first receive his glorified body… just like we will have, when the time comes.

When he appeared back on earth, he still had his body, you could feel the holes in his hand, and where the sword had pierced him, yet… his body had been transformed… or glorified, and so will ours

If these tombs really can be dated to around the first century, I think it would confirm that there really was a historical Jesus and we could finally start to understand how Christianity evolved.

Reading about the DNA testing “Because of protests against tomb excavations by members of the ultra-Orthodox community in Israel, the handling of such remains is an extremely sensitive issue. After the ossuaries are removed and catalogued from a tomb, the bones are turned over to religious authorities for reburial”

…potentially THE most important archaeological discovery ever, and we have to just throw the evidence away because of superstitious fanatics. I think I’m going to be sick.

…by the way, there’s a LOT of conjecture in that documentary presented as if it were scientific concensus. For example, the inscription they are claiming is “Jesus son of Joseph” is not legible.

If you remove that from their probability calculations, the odds that this tomb is the tomb of the Jesus of the Bible drops dramatically. It also isn’t clear that “Mariamenou kai Mara” refers to Mary Magdeline as the film claims it does.

Overall, the potential from the Talpiot tomb is huge, but it remains as mere potential today.

How about attempting to address my questions Amblessed.

I would find that far more useful.

That is a bunch of nonsense! Back then, in that certain area and time of the world, there were so many people by the name of Jesus. It would be like finding a tomb nowdays with the name John on it, who had a mother named Mary and Father named Joesph. Can you imagine how many people in this world fit that description? That entire show is just laughable. Jesus Christ, did die and he arose. It is recorded in not just biblical accounts but other, “nonchristian writings” from that time period that Jesus was seen by over 500 people after his death. Physically, not spirtually!

It is impossible to know ANYTHING for certain that happened over 2,000 years ago.
