Why do I suddenly need more sleep?

Ever since I was realy young, I always had trouble sleeping, I would always sleep late, then wake for school and would never be tired. I had aways been used to sleeping at 1 or 2 in the morning. However, the past year or so, I have been trying to sleep earlier, 12, 11 ish, and alll of a sudden now, I am tired all the time, afterschool i need a nap, and then I am still tired.

My top 3 reasons would be (A) Poor diet. If you lack certain vitamins and minerals, you may develop sleepiness. I have am a vegetarian and am anemia, which is an iron deficiency and often makes one tired. You may also have a internal problem such as hypothyroidism or UTI. (B) Too much caffeine. Too much caffeine temporarily increases your heartrate. But when it wears off, you are often times left feeling tired. (C) Or maybe you just have sleep apnea!

The above is a very good answer. I have the same problem. Mine is caused by stress and therefore my body does not take in nutrients properly.

I now take vitamin B supplements together with iron and zinc (all complex supplements of course)

Make sure that your diet is also good, lots of complex carbohydrates and fruits and vegetables.

Being dehydrated can also make your tired. Make sure that you drink enough water during the day ,especially while you are at school.

Then try not to give in to the urge to sleep in the afternoons, it can throw of your concentration. Rather eat a light lunch and take a walk around the block to wake up.

I think the reason why now your feeling more tired is because your body is finally crashing down! Of course if you combine years of partying by only getting 4 -5 hours of sleep with stress & anxiety your body will just reset itself & crash…just like when you have an energy drink…like stated above. If you are going to boost on an energy drink, which is like a shot of caffeine straight up… your gonna be on a sugar high & then after a few hours your going to crash & have the need to sleep! In my opinion, before stacking up on any vitamins & minerals, I would consider doing a little bit of research…how are you sleeping when you are sleeping. Sometimes our unconscious minds work overtime while you think you are asleep your brain is still working like while your dreaming you may not know it at that time but you will wake up just as tired! Also meet with your physician & explain what is going on, perhaps you have a lot of stress at work & it can also be wearing you down. allow your physician to run some tests & really check what may or may not be the reason for you feeling very tired. Depression can also be a symptom of sleep.
In any case…I hope you find the answer to your problem & hope the advice I may have given you leads to a solution.

Good Luck!
