Why would someone suddenly blackout?

(I was sitting watching TV with my husband and all of a sudden his head fell back onto the back of the couch and his eyes rolled up and he was totally out of it for about a minute. I slapped him lightly on the face and tried to revive him but it didn’t help. After about a minute he came out of it but couldn’t remember doing it. He said he got really hot right before it happened and he is fine now other than feeling a little siick to his belly. I want him to go to the hospital but he says he is fine. Nothing like this has ever happened to him before. What could of caused this? Thanks )

Answer #4

Answer #5

That actually happened to me twice, and I was also really hot before it happened. Not enough oxygen was getting to my brain and therefore caused me to blackout, I actually went to the doctor’s and they told me nothing was wrong. I also didn’t remember anything happenning other than before it happened. I was just really hot and everything was speckled black at first and then I just blacked out. So if he feels this way again just tell him to lay down because I was told the heart can pump blood much faster towards the brain when it is at the same level of it.

Answer #6

I randomly blacked out because my blood pressure got too low. Alternatively high b.p. could also cause it. I mean a check up at some point would probably be smart.

Answer #7

Thanks. Its possible, we do have a little rescue dog here right now that is keeping us all awake.

Answer #8

Answer #9

Thanks much! I will remember to get him to lay down if it happens again (Though I pray it never happens again, I don’t think I’ve been so scared in my life!)

Was he sick? Sometimes illness can cause this. People can lose consciousness for many reasons, some harmless, and others quite serious. People can also carry illnesses in their systems long before the symptoms manifest, so he could have been getting sick and not have known it. If he hit his head earlier that day, it could have been a symptom of a concussion (many people can get concussions without knowing it).

He should defintely see a doctor, because this could be a warning sign of a medical condition, such as diabetes (and no, you don’t have to be overweight or unhealthy to be diabetic). He should have a full physical to make sure he’s in good health. If he is, I wouldn’t worry. But if it happens again, call the paramedics! It could be a sign of a very serious condition.

If people would get medical attention right away when things like this happen, many medical conditions could be prevented or treated sooner. If it happens again, don’t let him tell you it’s nothing and he feels fine! He should get medical care if for no other reason than because it will give you peace of mind. :) His doctor should also be able to tell him about other warning signs he should be on the lookout for, just to make sure the blackout wasn’t a symptom of an underlying problem.

Best wishes to you and your husband. :) Also keep in mind that the human body is basically a very, very complicated piece if machinery. Not everything can function 100% properly all the time, and things can go wrong without being indicative of larger problems. But your husband needs to see a medical professional just in case.

And if it happens again, have him sit or lie down somewhere quiet and comfotable. Turn the TV off, dim the lights, and get him a glass of cold water to drink. Have him practice deep breathing exercises and stay calm. It should pass eventually, but if doesn’t, see a doctor ASAP!

Answer #17

Once I passed out because I did’nt sleep all night… I fell and hit my head on the microwave but I did’nt remember it… My friend just told me what happend

Answer #18

Answer #19

Answer #20
