What would happen to someone if they took Mifepristone and they weren't pregnant?

You’re probably thinking, “Why would someone want to do that?” But it’s just a what if scenario.

Answer #1

First of the doctor would not prescribe pills if the patient was not pregnant.

It’s highly unlikely anything would happen but you could risk a minor headache or fatigue.

Answer #2

You could expect symptoms similar to those of a regular or heavy period up to about 2 weeks, possibly with more severe cramping. You may want to avoid have sex for a few days, as it causes softening and dilation of the cervix to aid in expelling the embryo (or in this case, shed the uterine lining), so you could be prone to infections.

Answer #3

It depends on the dose. Mifepristone is actually used for various things. At lower doses it is an oral contraceptive, or emergenc contraceptive. Its also used as an antidepressant, or to treat certain adrenal disorders.

Answer #4

Actually mifepristone is prescribed for a variety of things, so yes a doctor would prescribe it for a non-pregnant patient.
