staph infection in my white boxer puppy

I have a white boxer who is 6 months old. She was put on prednisone because of really bad scratching and it has helped her. She is almost off of it only 5 pills left. She is going to get spayed on wednesday and I just took her to the vet because she had these spots all overher. The vet said it was a staph infection. He gave me medicated shampoo for her but she is starting to bite herself. Is it going to get bad? I dont want her hair to fall out. How can I help her?

A staph infection is tricky and boxers are prone to all sorts of stuff. If she does lose her hair it will grow back as long as she doesn’t itch it and cause scars, talk to your vet about using a soothing lotion on her till it cleans up and see about the ever so embarrassing cone. Good luck!

Use the shampoo just as directed. What she has is an “over-production” of staph on her skin…ALL skin has staph on it. She might lose some hair, but it will clear up quickly…honest! My dog got the same thing summer after summer…he’d get wet, and his undercoat wouldn’t dry…we used medicated shampoo last summer (finally)…and did our best to keep him out of the sprinklers. It cleared up.
