is a 14 month old boxer puppy too old to train?

I am looking at buying a 14 month old boxer puppy, but am worried that he is almost mature (16 weeks) with respect to the socialisation period, and that I have missed out on the most important part of his life. From all the research I have done eveything points to the fact an 8 week pup would be a much better option, with regards to future training and the long term behaviour of the dog, is this correct? Many thanks

ok by mature do you mean sexualy or that he is an adult dog. cause he is not an adult dog until he is 3 years old. but, No he is not too old to train. I had an older dog that I trained. with time and paitence you can train him.

So which is he?? 14 months? or 16 weeks?? A Boxer isn’t mature until it’s 24 months old…before you take this dog, DO watch and see how socialble he is…he may have had all the socialization he needs from the current owner. How is he around other dogs? How is he around children? These are the things you need pay attention to when you visit him…if he passes muster on all this, all you missed out on is having to pick up pee and poop, most of the chewing…the crying at night…in other words, you got yourself a “jewel”…

Regardless if he’s 14 months (and I still can’t figure out why you have 16 weeks in your question)…anyway, he’s still a pup, and dogs are trainable till they’re so old they can’t see or are too deaf to hear.
