What can you do for a german shepherd who has a staph infection?

I know he needs pills but they are expensive and my mom just ran out of them. What can I do?

Well, there’s no denying that the dog needs its medication, but in the meantime, try to treat the symptoms to keep him comfortable at the very least…some Benadryl for the itching, maybe some antibiotic ointment…do try to get him his pills though, this can get serious if left untreated.

Staph is a naturally occuring bacteria on the skin….it’s when it takes on an overgrowth, that irritation/itching/biting…..and in some cases the oder of dirty socks. It can happen anytime, tho usually in the summer if your dog likes to swim etc….wet + warmth can kick in a real overgrowth.

You need to get antibiotics from the Vet…..PLUS, using a medicated shampoo….like every three days for a couple weeks will help. I used Viodine shampoo (has Iodine in it, and very effective against staph)…I found it at the Feed store (any store that has stuff for horses will do)….

The antibiotics are absolutely necessary tho…
