Do you think they should or shouldn't offer money for blood and plasma donations?

I think its a nice incentive to try and get more people to donate, however from my experience the clinics in our area that offer money for donations are usually filled with people donating their blood and plasma to feed their dr.ug habit/addiction.

Answer #1

they should because every good deed needs a reward

Answer #2

yes and no, this is probably utterly unhelpful, but i give blood and i think its really awesome that me sitting down for an hour and then being told to eat biscuts, but on the other hand it might prove a bigger incentive for people to give

In countries where medical treatment (including the supply of blood for transfusions) is free - like the UK, there should be no money offered for giving blood. It should be freely given and accepted.

In countries or organizations where medical treatment (including the supply of blood for transfusions) are done for profit - like the USA and private medical care in the UK, it should be mandatory that the blood supplied should be paid for at the going rate. It should be governed by the market forces of supply and demand.

All blood offered should be tested and rejected as unsuitable if tainted by infection or drügs. Illegal drüg users should not be allowed to sell their blood even though law abiding citizens might be allowed to do so.

Sometimes . There Are People Who Need It To Survive Operations. People Who Have Leukemia. Hemophelia. Maybe Not Money. So Much As Gift Certificate To Book Store Or Restaurant .People Who Are Sick Should Not Give Blood Or Have Infectious Diseases Can’t Infect … More People

Answer #5

There’s always the flip side to everything. If you give money for something like blood, certain vulnerable populations are going too be exploited, and certain desperate people will do anything for it. Quite honestly, I believe if people want to use the money for their addiction, that’s their problem. Regulating use is not something I think we should be doing anyways. People have used since forever and they always will. Trying to stop it is beyond futile. However, I doubt the blood would be usable, so if they could come up with a cost effective method of checking whether there was dr.ugs in the blood, then why not. It would eliminate that segment of the population.

Answer #6

In Canada donated blood and “plasma” is free and the donater doesn’t get paid. I’m sure more people would donate if it paid. But a lot of people do it just because they have a heart. But I like the idea of getting paid, but ofcourse isn’t necessary.

Answer #7

No - you dont get paid here, and nor do you pay if you recieve it. A lot of people give blood reguarly here. Most of my friends do (I dont because of a stupid phobia, but im working on it!) and there are always blood drives for pretty much any organisation, workplace, or tertiary institution, which have really high levels of participation. I do think you should be paid though, if the person getting it needs to pay. If any money is generated through your blood/plasma, it should go to you.

Answer #8

well, i don’t really think it matters to me if they give money or not, but what ticks me off is that they get my blood for free, and sell it to patients at a hospital for $75.00 a pint. if that’s what it cost them to store it or whatever, i wouldn’t care, but i know they’re making a bundle on my blood, so if they can, then why shouldn’t i make some cash, as well?
