Should I quit now?

I’m in Jr. High right now. I’ve been taking piano lessons since I was 5 or 4. Right now, I’m at level 6 or book 6 for the Royal Conservatory books. OKay, it’s becoming a big problem because I don’t think I have much interest in it anymore. I really like playing the piano but I don’t know whats wrong with me ;when I’m done my lessons, I go home BUT I don’t practice. It’s driving me nuts. It seems like it’s becoming more a torture than FUN. I don’t know myself if I like piano or not. I’m confusing myself. After all that money, time my parents and teachers spent on me would be a huge waste if I just quit now. At the same time, I think I still enjoy it. It’s just so confusing right now. Tomorrow’s my last lesson for the month and my dad will pay the teacher for next month’s fee tomorrow. I don’t know what I should do? Should I just quit for a while? How do I decide if piano is what I really like to do. HELP SOS.

XOXO THANKS!

Dear Going, Why don’t you tell Mom,Dad,Teacher that you want to take one full month off. For this month don’t even look at a piano. Just relax and don’t allow yourself and parents and teacher to get uptight over this. It could be a couple things..1. It could be your teacher is not making it challenging and it is making you bored, I compare your situation to someone that lifts weights and they can’t get past a certian weight…they plato..This may be what is happening to you,…you are ready for that next level. 2. It could be you are just getting burnt out on the piano..this is why you should take at least a month and do nothing with piano. Do other things…maybe sports or activities you have always wanted to try. O ya..One other thing…You keep thinking that something is “wrong with you” simply because you are not happy playing piano…and I will jump through this computer and stuff you into a piano bench and then I will sit on it until you cry uncle!!! LOL… There is nothing wrong with you…Relax..enjoy your life and yourself. Funmail me anytime…Good-luck!! Familycoach

I myself am in the Royal conservatory book 5. I NEVER practise and find lessons dissapointing when I come and haven’t learned anything. Maybe you should talk to your teacher/dad and figure out a way to keep playing but without the stress and exams (if you do them) of the Royal Conservatory. Maybe you could just buy some books with fun, newer (or older) music and try those to keep you excited and into practising and learning the new song.

well, I was learning for like 5 years, then I took a 3 month break. before I didn’t like it, nowi love it. it could be the type of music you’re playing, (im playing popular songs like apologize) if your playin classical, yeah, its boring. just complain to your teacher han you want a different thing.
