Shitzu 1 year old giving birth

She is giving birth right now the first pup was born at 6:00 and its 11:00 and still no more pups, could she be having a problem? Is there anything I can do?Kimberly

How did your girl do? Give her oil??? LOL! Are you KIDDING ME?!? That has absolutely nothing to do with giving birth! I can’t believe you even advised that frankietory! If more than 3 hours lapses between pups, I always keep oxytocin on hand. It helps the uterus contract for delivery of the next pup. You really have to know what you’re doing to use that though. If the pup is stuck in the birth canal or some complication like that, you do not want to give oxytocin. You can tell if they’re stuck or not by inserting a finger in her and feeling for a puppy. The best bet is to take the dog to the vet if you’re new at this and don’t know how to handle the situation. Hope everything turned out ok for you and the new mommy.

call the vet and tell them it could also depend on her size my shih tzu is 6 and half pounds so its best to call the vet

Its normal for animals to have the babies in long amounts of time. I would feel to see if she still has any in here tummy, if you can feel them moving then she still has them coming, but if you don’t feel anything I mean she either has a few in there that didn’t live, or she had a small batch. try feeding her some oil, (sounds weird but will make them slide out faster)

If you’re feeling nervous about this…and since you don’t know anything about whelping pups…then I suggest you call the Vet…

PS…don’t give her ANYTHING…until you run it by somebody who is in the know.
