she is timid and shyy.

alrightt soo my cat is about 3 years old and we got her when she was about 1. she is a very scared cat all the time.. she hides under the bed… runs when we come close to her. I tink she was abused before we got her. she is soo scared that we have to be sitting down in a chair or near her height for me maybe to pet her. and when I do pet her she loves it. what can I do for her? how can I get her to not be as scared.. I’ve had her for 2 years and she has just started opening up to me and my family now.

one of my two cats was like that (she was a stray) but we just sat near her and petted her gently, and started playing with her, and slowly she got used to us. now she’s “the cuddle-queen”. just be patient and gentle and (I know this sounds crazy, but…) talk to her softly while you pet her. she might always be a little jumpy, but chances are she’ll slowly start to trust you and become an affectionate, happy kitty. good luck!!

There’s not much you can do… Mine took a few years before she stopped jumping at all noises, and even now she hides under the bed… Just let her be… She is who she is, and any attempts to force her to be otherwise arent going to go down well…

the only place she feels safe and free is under the bed. she is fine until I have to vaccuum the room. then she runs from her safe place under the bed to the basement…

I agree with jackie. Just be kind to her, make sure she has a safe place and be consistent in how you treat her. Sometimes there are cats that are just always whacko. But it’s worth trying to get her trust, because then she will be so sweet.

my cat was like that but now she is 11 and totally fine when we come in the door try to set up a place where she can hide like in a corner where no one goes and let that be her little place where she can always feel safe. just a thought it takes a while for babies to feel safe so just give it time and I bet she will come around good luck!
