Rescue centers
Hey, I am wondering wether or not a rescue dog would best suit my lifestyle rather than a puppy. The dog/ puppy would have a short (1/2 hour) every morning and then a much longer (1-2 hour) in the evening and sometimes aother walk later on in the evening. We live right over the road to a large park/ field and are about 10 mins away from the beach. The dog would be grately loved and cared for, the only problem is that the dog would have to stay at home alone for 6-7 hours every weekday, with a possible half hour visit during that time. I know this isnt ideal but we really want a dog to love and care for. Is a rescue dog for us?
Yes, you need to read about different breeds just so you have a idea of what to expect when you bring home a new addition or what you want out of your dog. Mix dogs make great pets but nice to know about the breeds they are mixed with. There is nothing wrong with a 6-7 hours wait. I work full time and my dogs are in there crate for atleast 6-9 hours. Now this is not Ideal for a puppy, but a older dog that is fine. Good luck and I hope you find your match.
My daughter has a Welsh Corgi that came from a Corgi rescue society, who is wonderful, and (to my surprise) he had no issues. Her schedule is like yours, and the dog has no problem with it. Corgi’s are smart, personable dogs. They look a little bit like a miniature German Shepard with extra-short legs. They are a herding breed, so they like to stay near their “herd” (I.e. you and your family). Getting a rescue dog is a great idea, and I might add that all dog and their owners benefit from taking a dog handling class together. Good Luck!!
Yeah, a rescue dog would be great. An nearly adult or an adult dog requires less (like a pup would have get out more often at least while housetraining)…and it sounds to me like you’re aware as well as committed to giving a dog a good home.
Just keep in mind that taking in a rescue dog there can be “issues” to work out, but they are well worth the effort…AND you’d be saving a life!!
