How can I introduce a rescue dog to my 2 cats ?

I am thinking of getting a rescue dog she is a black retriever 8yrs old how can I introduce her to my 2 cats

Answer #1

its really a confusing question, my oppinion is not to bring the dog.please dont hurt your cat because its really an adult dog.

Answer #2

I probably would not select to bring such a mature dog that I did not know the background about into a home with two cats. There are plenty of rescue dogs that have been tested and do not have cat aggression. That would be a better choice.

As long as the dog is simply curious, and not aggressive to cats, they can get used to each other (even if not best buddies). You’re going to have to be ultra vigilante at first to insure the cats’ safety…watching carefully to see if the dog is movtivated by curiosity, or if it hates cats. In the beginning, put one of the cats in a crate, so they can meet thru the holes of the cage…

As long as she isn’t anything more than curious, it will take a couple of weeks but the cats will come out from under the bed :)…They may however, start some strange habits…usually things like not using the litter box, or peeing on clothes or beds…due to the change in the household…you might want to think about that, and if you’re willing to put up with those changes for a while.
