Are labs extra hard to teach to roll over?

r labs harder to teach to roll over then other dogs

Answer #1

I’ve lived with lab mixes all my life, which is 13 years. I’ll have you know that dogs aren’t quite the Albert Einsteins of today, but on the list labs are on the more dopey end. They are very sweet and affectionate, but not the most keen. But, once you teach them something it is a life skill, whereas other breeds, like the beagle, tend to be forgetful. Why else do you think labs are seeing eye dogs? But I’ll have you know, enrolling your dog in school was not a smart decision. Labs need extra attention and concentration and you need to have a private dog trainer who will work with both you and the dog. Different dogs learn differently. Labs need to have the extra money and time devoted to learning their life skills. Also, “roll over” is not a command that your dog should know. Roll over is more a trick, if you were going to put your dog in competitions. But, roll over actually damages their back and does nothing for their training. It’s just for show, whereas sit and lie down you say when you’re walking and you want them to stop. I highly suggest teaching your dog more useful commands, because labs can only remember so much. You shouldn’t go on the floor with your dog though to pet it and roll over. You are sending them the impression that they are your equal. They will not listen to you if you do that. My answer only works with dragon226’s answer, because my best friends dog is still a puppy. If your friends dog is a fully grown dog, and he got it fully grown, or almost, then it would be harder. Britz

Answer #3

No.Not if they are puppies. If you teach them to roll over when they are puppies,it is likely that they will rmember it for the rest of their lives.

Answer #4

no just I was talking to about my dog to my friend (my dogs collie, retrieve mix), and he said my dog was dum, and im like yea at least he can roll over, and he has a lab, and he was like while labs are harder to teach that stuff, and I was like thats bull sh*t ps. I had my dog trianed in school

Answer #5

Well, what your friend said isn’t true… you shouldn’t pay attention to him about dogs if thats what he says, because, no offence, he doesn’t have a clue what he’s on about.

Answer #6

Not that I know of, as my best friend got a labrador as a puppy, and she doesn’t have any problems training it. If you’re asking on behalf of yourself, is your labrador old? Or old enough not to be classified as a puppy? If so, maybe you need to take your labrador to a dog training school, which can be pretty costly, but is almost guaranteed to work. Hope my answer helped, Britz

Answer #7

coming from someone whos has one for nine years, I can tell yout hat labs are stupid. not as in I dont like them, but as in they dont learn the way other dogs do.(if dogs went to high school, theyd be on the short bus) I taught my dog to roll over by rolling on the floor with her, when I eventually go ther to roll over, connect the word roll over with it and I should be easy to train her.
