puppies walking on a lead.

my border collie puppy, twelve weeks old has been on a about ten walks, just little ones. I find my self having to constantly tug her, as she keeps laying down or sitting down. I don’t want to be mean, but I don’t know whether she is tired, or she is still getting used to her lead. I practiced with her round the garden. will she grow out of it, or am I exercising her too much? thanks x

my yorkie had this problem when she was a puppy. And this puppy I had to watch had the same problem. So for both of the dogs (I didn’t have them at the same time) I took off the leash and then I started walking and calling there names and they started to follow after a little while. I put their leash back on and they walked fine.

Hope I Helped!

its not me being dragged, she just lays down, so I eventually get her to stand up, and she just doesn;t budge so I have to try and pull her, but I feel mean, if she is just tired!

Answer #3

I have a boxer, and we dealt with the same problem. If your Border Collie is pulling you when you take walks, then stop in place and wait for your dog to stop pulling. Try walking again and keep doing this repeatedly if your dog keeps pulling. Once she/he has learned, you should give them (a) treat or praise. Good luck :D

P.S. Puppies can get tired easily so a lot of walks is probably not the best idea, maybe take your dog out every other day.

This is a form of “doggie protest”…you are not being mean by making her follow you. You can try enticing her with treats (the carrot in front of the donkey)…if that doesn’t work, get a harness, and put her on the lawn, you can let her know that stopping isn’t an option…keep on walking, even if she lays down…it won’t be long and she will follow.

She’s still kinda young… maybe she’s tired… Try shorter walks…

I mean if I can get my cat to walk on a leash, you’ll get your dog to…

Answer #6

what I did with my puppy is walk with the dog on mt left hand side and the lead in my right hand, and with me left hand I held a treat like cheese infront of her nose and walkes and she picked it up from there really. training your pup to walk on leads is tough but keep on it and praise her wehn she does walk if she sits and refuses to walk give her a little tug and when she does walk relax the lead.

I walk my 13 week old pup twice a day for 20 mins!

collies are energetic dogs so do 2 walks a day for 20 mins maybe x
