poop question

I have a 5 week old son he poops every 3-4 days I see that hes uncomfortable at times, his doc changed his milk to similac sensitive what else can I give him to make him go??

Answer #1

Try starting feedings by giving him some warm water- he’ll get a few gulps down before he realizes that it is not milk, and then you can switch to milk. Don’t know why it works, but it does sometimes. (do it consistently)

I’m not sure if Similac Sensitive is the ‘lactose free- dairy based’ formula or not, but try that type.

You can try gentle massage. Rub his tummy in a slow circular motion (don’t press hard- you’re just trying to gently stimulate his large intestine). Starting above his right leg, circling over his belly button and down over his left leg, and repeat (again, with GENTLE pressure)… a few times a day for a few minutes at a time is what I used to do- even if it doesn’t work, it often makes them feel better.

Warm baths are good.

If it gets VERY bad- my son’s pediatrician ok’d pear juice at about 2.5 months old and it works like a charm. Check with him on whether that’s ok for your little one.

I hope he feels better soon!

KDSMM- Pretty much hit it on the head. My daughter did the same thing. Just make sure you check with your doctor before you do anything just in case. I’ll be praying that little man poos more often for you!!!

Answer #3

awww poor baby…like give him some fruit

He is 5 weeks old, are you INSANE???

What you can do is speak to your pharmacist, sometimes colic drops can help for discomfort in babies that are constipated. But don’t buy it without consulting first.

Answer #4

At 5 weeks old there really isn’t much else to give him. Formula is notorious for causing constipation and irregular bowel movements so be patient and take your doctor’s advice.

Answer #5

My daughter got the same way once when she was about a month old due to the iron in her formula…Her pediatrician said it was fine to give her 1oz of apple juice once a day (the infant kind. Gerber has tiny bottles by the formula and baby food section). It worked perfectly. Just be sure not to add water or anything to it. It’s pure juice with nothing added so its fine as is.

As for the nursery water. Someone recommended that and I tried it. Then my daughter started spitting up tons of water…And I was only giving her 1oz a day. When I took her to the doctor, she said Nursery water has fluoride in it, and fluoride is to harsh on an infants tummy (any baby under 1yo should not drink it!) That’s when she said about the apple juice, and it worked perfectly!!

Answer #6

give him regular nursery water, keep a botter just for water!
