What can I do my baby won't poop?

It’d help if we knew the age of your baby. If he’s a newborn, the waking every two hours is normal- and necessary so he can eat enough to sustain him.

You need to give his pediatrician a call. Constipation is a common condition in infants. It usually comes from a lactose intolerance (whether he’s getting lactose from the dairy in his formula or if it’s coming from YOUR diet and you’re nursing), or from him not getting enough fluids.

Try getting him to drink a few sips of warm water before each bottle, that for some reason helps them poop. Warm baths help them poop. Also, gently massage his belly starting at above his right hip, circle over under his ribcage, down over his left hip, and across. You want to apply GENTLE pressure, just enough to be soothing. What you’re doing is going along the large intestine and that can stimulate him to poop- or at least it may make him feel better. (Check with his pediatrician about the next few) You can also try switching him from a formula with lactose in it to a lactose-free dairy based formula (Similac sensitive in the orange canister) or a soy based formula. Within a day or so you should notice a difference. A little bit of pear juice or prune juice can help them go to the bathroom too. Pear juice can be given (warmed to his preference) as it is, but my son’s pediatrician recommended we incorporate about 2 table spoons into formula, as it’s thick and pretty powerful stuff.
