It depends on where you live, and the Insurance Company you have…Farmers isn’t all that interested in the breed of dog (FYI)…

You have to be the leader with a Pitbull (just like you would with a German Shepherd, a Rottie, a Dobie, a Mastiff…and a host of other naturally dominant breeds)…That consists of fair…consistant training (key word “training”)…and that means working with it every day while it’s young. Socialization…taking it out in public (like parks, or even sitting out front of the grocery store) to meet strangers,

I would also sign up for an obedience class…I personally think “owers” learn more in class than the dogs do…but you can learn to control your dog…learn basic obedience that makes having one of these great dogs a pleasure, rather than a liability.

Yup, watch Ceaser Milan, he is one all this week on the National Geo Channel, I also am reading his book on how to be the pack leader, YOu do need to get in control now, before it gets worse. You are allowing him to dominate over you guy’s (sorry) he has to earn it and he needs to be part of the pack, not the leader of it. Ceaser give excellent advice, There was a great show on lastnight of a couple who had a pit and adopted another one, she always showed aggresion and it got to the point where she was fighting with the other dog. Ceaser had her for about one month with his pack, she was doing great. As soon as the owners showed up she felt their nervous engery and started attacking another dog, Ceaser was honest and said he thinks they should choose another dog because of there emotions. They did not want to give up so Ceaser kept her for another month and then took her back to there house, He was very slow about bringing back to her turf and all went well but the owners have to be very strict and “snap” her out of a possiable attack before she reachers her “red zone” I hate to ramble on, but this information he gives us really works and I use it everyday at work against “red zone” dogs and how I great them. Sometimes I don’t even great a dog that behaves like this until it settles down. Good luck and I hope you do all the research you can, you will have a great dog if you lay down the law and have rules.

Most homeowners insuruance will not give you house insurance if you own pitbulls, it’s sad but true. I have 2 pitbulls and we can’t get house insurance were we live because of them.

When it comes to pitbulls, you have to be the leader of the pack. You have to show the dog who the “alpha male or female” is to get them under control. You cant’ just baby them, let them do whatever they want, and get away with everything. You have to teach them dicipline and correct them for bad behaviour.

Our pits are like babies though, I love them to death and they are great around my son. They are protective of him though and do not like strangers to get near him, I see it as a good thing thouh.

Answer #5

There is some kind of technique that let’s you take the role of the “alpha male”, so that the dog will obey you.

Answer #6

that is exactly what ceasar teaches and he is also known as the Dog whisperer
