Oh…I don’t think a GSD can out a Pit, in the force of a bite…tho may equal a Rottie…

I LOVE Pits…they are smart, athletic, & affectionate…The worst thing to happen to Pits are the people who get them for the wrong reasons, or try to make them into something they are not (or breed them out of what they originally were…a human friendly, kind, funny little fellow). Trying to breed or train them into being guard dogs, has made this breed illegal in so many places (dog fault, or human??)…or JUST as bad, being too lazy to give this breed what it needs…A LOT of physical activity, mental stimulation…and fair and consitant discipline…it IS a gladiator breed, after all, and was not made to be a couch potato!

What never ceases to amaze me…is the more ignorant an owner…the more likely that person will have a “pack” of Pits, instead of just one family pet… Why is that?? :(

You might want to transfer this to the section on pets. ask an advisor. I like pits. They are intelligent and sweet but they are also horribly abused and misused. I fall into the category that they aren’t vicious dogs, they just have vicious/stupid owners. Each breed of dog has it’s own temperment. Pits need proper and good training. They need their owner to be the alpha dog, but not through abuse. Hitting and yelling at a dog is never good. If you are considering getting a pit, please spay/neuter. I say that about all dogs but it is especially important when it comes to pits. Pits and pit mixes are the most euthanized dogs in the U.S. The shelters are full of them, most are killed. They have large litters and the babies are sold on almost every major street where I live. If you want a pit puppy, please adopt one from a shelter. There are so many who need a home. And they will be euthanized if not adopted.

I like pits also. I love watching the pit group called “ bad wrap” I ditto what Utopia said, It is stupid owners. I have a Rottie, second in line behind the Pit for worst force of bite. She is now 12yrs old and never bit anyone and lives with 2 chihuahua’s and a Aussie. It is all about how you train them. In a city where I lived you had to pay an extra 50.00 a yr just to own a pit. Look any dog will fight if tought. Here is a pic of my rottie and chihuahua. I say if you want one go get one, if you tteach it bad things they look out because it could turn on anyone including you.

I work at a shelter and there is this massively huge pit that the director may take but he is a big ol lug-really, hes a big lap dog that breaks your legs if he flops down on you. we looove him we take him into the office and he stays there all day-of course he gets walked though, but anyhow, they are my favorite breed but extremely misunderstood, if it werent for people who fought them there wouldnt be thousands of `em euthanized every day in shelters.

I dont see anything wrong with pit bulls. I realy wanted one for a while. I don’t know why people think they’re mean by nature, their not. they’re bread for their willingness to obey. they want to do just what their owner wants them to do adn most the time people get them for dog fighting and with that their owners tell them good boy when the bite the crap out of some other dog so they keep doing it because tey think its good. god I wish people werent so judgemental they’d make great pets.
