What is a "whack and hack" philosophy?

What do you mean by whack and hack philosophy?

Answer #1

Example: your t.v. picture goes screwy from time to time…you have learned that kicking the side of the television brings back the picture BUT you have not learned WHY it goes screwy!, and your fix is only temporary!

Answer #2

The immediate goal of troubleshooting any particular problem should be to restore functionality as quickly as possible. This presents a problem since many problems can be more quickly fixed with a whack and hack philosophy; a situation where you can fix a problem without ever researching the why the problem occured in the first place. With this mentality you will be limiting the amount of knowledge you can acquire and could prevent yourself from permanently fixing a reoccuring problem.

Hope this helped and sorry it was so long,
