Can this be reported to police?

My friend went on vacation a few days ago. While she was gone someone signed into her facebook (no one knows how they got the password) and made all her friends believe she was in the hospital dying. My friend is back and is pretty sure she knows who did it.

If she finds proof this person did it, can the person get in trouble for it? Would it be considered hacking (which I’ve heard is illegal)?

Answer #1

If they are in the US? Absolutely.

And, given the lawsuit against Craigslist recently (well, the “threatened” lawsuit, which was then retracted, by the Attorney General of South Carolina) cash strapped state governments would LOVE to make a public statement over a high profile site like that.

Answer #2

actually probablly not unless she was making death threats or something the internet is a hard place to find particular people so unless you know exactly who the hacker is the police cant do much about it the best thing you can do is change your password or/and e-mail address also contact facebook about it but unless you know exactly who it was and have proof the police cant do much and even if you did its still doubtful that theyll do much about it

Answer #3

Yes, the person can get in trouble if she can prove they really did it. That’s considered hacking and the cops tend to frown upon that lol.

Answer #4

I think she’s just gonna try to find proof they did it and report them for stealing her phone (which they did steal). But she’ll contact Facebook about this.

Answer #5

She’s going to contact Facebook and see if they can maybe trace an IP Address. If they can, she’ll call the police about it.

Answer #6

Yes it’s considered hacking,if the authorities find out who do it,that person can be in serious trouble, have her contact Facebook about this issue.

Answer #7

yes she should report the person ASAP! & have them charged

Answer #8

Answer #9
