Why do people get mad when you say "you people/guys/girls"?

who knows. it’s just another one of those little things people make a big fuss about

Well usually when somone says “you people” they mean people of your race, religion, sexual oriantation, or somthing that sets you apart from other “normal” people.

I suppose it’s because you’re taking away their identity and giving them a title they didn’t ask for. Ex : during ww2 those in concentrations camps were tattooed with numbers, those were their names instead of their original ones. Very defeating to them. Get it?

When you say that it sounds like you focus or only see “that” part, instead of who they are. For example, saying “you men can never find things”, it’s being sexist or discriminating men. Don’t you agree that it can be kinda offending when you say it like that?

well because if you do that it means that you are generalising all people making that specific person feel that they are just like the rest in a bad way

It’s because they don’t want to be like all the other people. And “you girls always have…” often shows stereotype thinking. Even if it’s true, people don’t like to be caught matching the stereotype.

I guess I should stop using it then, lol. I use it some if I walk in on something “What are you guys/girls doing” or “What are you people doing in my house!?” (Especially with cops ;) )

People get upset because instead of calling them by their name, you want to be disrespectful by calling them “you people” like if they are below your level or not up to your standards. And as for “guys” or “girls” depends on what situation like if your a teacher of guys and girls then people shouldn’t get affended if the teacher calls out “guys & girls”.
