How can I tell my parents I don't want to study computers?

Im really good with computers but i want to act and sing. But they dont want me to follow my dreams? And i dont want them to hate me fo that.

Answer #1

Well maybe u can work on both. since acting and singing are really hard to make it through… u can have computers as a side thing. like a back up. to act nd sing and to make it to the bigtime is nearly impossible. but ya never no. u caould be the next star… keep ur hopes up. but have a back up plan just in case

Answer #2

I want to do the same but what I am going to do is go to sixth form and study good subjects such as maths and computing. I’ll then go to a drama school and try and get into that business but if I’m not able to get into that then I will have an education to fall back on so I can still have the best of both worlds as I can then have a good paid job and no need to go back to college

Answer #3

just tell them that you want to be happy doing something you like to do. they should care more about ur happiness then computers. wish you best luck!

Answer #4

They do care but they said that its not likely that i can become famous so they want me to have a career in something that i can get paid well.

It’s very hard to go against your parents without a more “solid” reason than you not wanting to do what they want you to do. Trust me, I’ve been in a similar situation but instead it was with a sport, and without telling my parents - I ended up playing it, miserably, for two more years. You need to understand that your parents want you to study computers because of how proud they are that you are so good with computers & want what’s best for you. If they realize how much you DON’T want to do that, they’ll back off. Explain to them the actual reason why you don’t want to study computers, besides the “I don’t wanna study computers anymore” reason. If you don’t want to study computers, don’t study computers. Just let it out. It is perfectly all right. Tell them you want to pursue your singing and acting skills :) They might be upset or disappointed at first, but they will understand eventually (if they don’t - that’s their problem!)

Answer #6

Learn computers… you will use it your whole life. But talk to your parents and see if you can mke a deal. If you make good grades in computer class, you will be allowed to be in a drama group or go to singing lessons.

Answer #7

Okay everyone needs a fall back and that includes people like you and me.Okay got that covered now the main reason why you should get a degree in computers is because in today’s times everything is becoming automated. So people with computers are going to need people like you to help them. Now this pays pretty nice.I know everyone has like their own thing they want to do but I think that a smart thing to do is get a degree in computers and tech support.Trust me things will play out nicely.

Answer #10

Well, at the end it is not your perents choice, it is your choice, and once you grow up you can follow your dreams and be who you want to be, somebody is always going to tell you that you can’t do something, but that does not mean that you have to stop believing. You can tell them straight out that you just want to be something else, but do have something else like to back up in case acting and singing don’t really work out, I’m not saying you won’t make it, sometimes you just have to have back up plans in case of some possible fail. Think about what you would like to do other than music and acting, and tell them that you would want to succed in singing and acting, but if that does not work, you want to do so, and so, depending on what it is that you want. Yes, your perents might have a problem with it, but once they see that you do have something else to do, in case something does not work, they will see that you are taking responsibility for your future.
