Are you an organ donor?

When you die, do you give permission for your organs to be donated? If you don’t, why? I always wonder why people choose not to donate when they will no longer need them, and they can save a person’s life.

Answer #1

i am not an organ donor, why idk. but i think i may change that soon.

Answer #2

Yes…it’s not like I’ll be needing my parts and if they save the life of another, then it’s worth doing.

Answer #3

I won’t mind if they take mine, but I don’t belong to any association atm. Would mind to either. I don’t however donate blood, firstly because I have slight anemia and secondly because my veins fall flat evertime someone tries to draw blood and it is very uncomfortable having someone poke you multiple times.

Answer #4

I would love to be, but I have never gotten round to applying for it. I would like to think that when I die they would be used to help someone instead of decaying.

Answer #5

Why do you ask?

Answer #6

oh i never read the rest. Hold on. Umm no. Its awesome to read stories about people that save others lives though.

Answer #7

You have the option to choose when you get your license. I just renewed mine and I have a purty new pink dot :D

Answer #8

That’s cool. I wish you could choose who to give them to. I’d love for my dad to be able to live his life without diabetes :)

Answer #9

what type of diabetes? if you dont mind me asking, is it type 1 or type 2?

Answer #10

when i get the option…i wont be.

But for a dumb reason…see, i feel like if i were, then i feel like if i had a bad accident, like surgery type, then the people would do little about it. its dumb, but still…humans are untrustworthy in my opinion.

Answer #11

Type 1, since he was 12 years old :)

Answer #12

oh :( im sorry.

Answer #13

I am . (:

Answer #14

It’s okay! :)

Answer #15

Of course. I really don’t understand people who refuse to be a donor. I think it’s selfish. When someone is like ‘No I’m not a donor, I don’t want somebody getting my special organs :O :O’ I’m just like oh my God get over yourself. Personally, I think that everyone should have to be donors. It’s not like you’ll actually know what’s happening after you die. Why should somebody else (on an organ waiting list) die just because some selfish big-headed looser didn’t want to share their perfectly fine organs that were going to rot away in 3 days anyway?

Answer #16

Eh, if that was the case, my family could just sue them and be wealthy because of me lol :)

Answer #17

no i havent had the decision yet but i will be when i turn 18 because i would love to save some one elses live plus my dad needs a kidney transplant hes been needed it fot like 4years now and l;ets just say things arent going to good for him :(

Answer #18

Yes, I definitely am. If my death can help someone thats fantastic, I’m all for it.

Answer #19

I don’t really know. I want to be one when I turn 18 because I just think that it will be useful to someone needing it outhere, but, I just don’t like the idea of my body being all emty and stuff, it’s just creapy to think about, I really don’t know right know, I’m stuck.

Answer #20

I choose not to be, not cause I’m sick or anything but just because as odd as it sounds I don’t want part of me living inside someone else. If I’m going to be dead, I better be completely dead. I know it takes a few days for all body processes to stop working, like hair growing and fingernails and skin, etc. But I don’t want want to be an organ donor.

Answer #21

I don’t think it would be at all ethical to make everyone organ donors. I’m not a donor and have no intention on doing it. Thats my personal decision. To make assumptions about non donors being “selfish big-headed losers” based on decision is jumping the gun a bit…Not saying that you shouldn’t say it. You have every right to your opinion. Harsh as it may be.

Answer #22

*based on one decision

Answer #23

im undecided, but i like the idea so i might eventually become one. however i dont hate people who arnt organ donors. because its their body. you cant tell soemone they SHOULD do soemthing, its ther choice, and its a pretty big choice. not everyone likes the idea of being cut up when your dead and all your organs that are inside your body being in someone else. even if it saves people, its not for everyone

Answer #24

I will definitely donate my organs. I also donate blood regularly and am on the Bone Marrow Registry.

Answer #25

I honestly don’t understand why somebody would want to keep their organs when they are dead. Especially when there is somebody else out there fighting for life, hanging on for an organ that a dead person is being buried with. No judging- but why aren’t you an organ donor?

Answer #26

I just don’t like the idea of part of my body being put into someone else. Its strange to me. I have nothing but respect for people who decide to donate their organs, but I will never understand it. The fact that organ harvesting has to happen very rapidly after death is quite disconcerting. I feel as though it is a morbid and unnatural practice. Obviously its unnatural due to the fact that the recipient is forced to go on anti-rejection medication so the immune system won’t destroy the new organ. I mean, I’m not at all religious or anything, but the whole practice seems to cross a line of respect for the deceased. Thats just my opinion though.
