Could oral contraceptives be the cause of my kidney infection?

I am an 18-year-old woman. I have been taking oral contraceptives for about 8 months. I am not sexually active, I use them for severe menstrual pains. The first time I was on birth control, I experienced intense itching sensations on various parts of my body. I switched to this new brand tthat I am on now after about a year of being off the pill. I have not had any problems with it other than it has very much affected my moods, but I am becoming concerned now as I was just in the hospital yesterday for a urinary tract infection that lead to a kidney infection. I have had bowel problems recently that could have caused this, but I am wondering if I should cease use of the pill. The doctor said that I do not have to, but what worries me is that there is no way to know if I was the rare case in which my infection was actually caused by the pill. Since I seem to have been sensitive to it in the past, I am confused as of what to do. Can oral contraceptives have caused my kidney infection?

Your UTI, left untreated or given antibiotics that didn’t work, are the cause of your kidney infection. I don’t know if the incidence of UTIs is greater if you’re on the pill, it’s more likely to be from having sex and not urinating afterwards.
