Is it normal for a christian to fear god?

I know Christians are suppose to have some fear of the lord but to fear that he is going to kill them at any second is too extreme?

Answer #1

Yeah, in my oppinion that is just odd.

Answer #2

it seems odd to me too, the paranoia even keeps him up at night and he swears the the lord has tried to kill him.

Answer #3

Oh you know someone who is this way ? I think he should really try to talk to someone about it. it might be anxiety,

Answer #4

Well what I find is that many Christians are scared of insulting their god in the slightest. Just because I agree with some other religions and find some parts of Christianity is stupid.

Answer #5

*Doesn’t mean God is going to kill me.

Answer #6

someone said the paranoia could have came from alcohol abuse, which my friend has done and that people sometimes while going through alcohol withdrawals see hallucinations but i dont know if that is true.

Answer #7

its just i have a friend who is extremely paranoid that god is going to kill him because he made a deal with a demon

Answer #8

Therapy could help I guess.

Answer #9

Well what you said earlier…alcohol abuse…um does he have a history of drugs or anything. I think maybe if you tell him he is a good man and that god won’t kill him it may help him rest.

Answer #10

Yeah. Ive been through this with one of my friends. he believed there was a demon inside him, that they were haunting him, and all this other crazy stuff. And he really did believe it. Like there were killer demons, demons to make him sleep, you name it there was one. sand he went to a psychologist, and got the help he needed.

Answer #11

he hasnt done any drugs just was an excessive alcohol drinker. I have told him he is a good person and god has no reason to be after him but he just tells me i dont understand

Answer #12

i want to recommend him to a psychologist but he swears it happening and i dont think he will ever go

Answer #13

Its because u dont

Answer #14

This is a hard Dilemma… Does his parents know?

Answer #15

his parents knows he drinks often but they dont know about anything else.

Answer #16

Yes. Cause it is happeneing to him. In his own mind. theres alot other people dont understand about how the mind can alter sh!t. It sucks. alot

Answer #17

i know i cant understand and know exactly what he is going through but i still want to try to help him in any sort of way possible. He has been my best friend for 7 years.

Answer #18

I know, its really hard

Answer #19

Would it be possible to tell his parents or the school councilor? You should help him unless that would make things worse. And don’t tell anybody who you aren’t sure you can trust because spreading rumors may destroy everything he has at school.

Answer #20

He is a college student and lives in another state currently, it is difficult for me to tell his parents, but not impossible and i dont think his reputation will be destroyed. I think he would loose all trust in me if i do tell his parents

Answer #21

Sorry I thought he was in High School… I guess you can’t tell his parents because he will know it was you… I wish I knew what to say but I don’t… I am sorry.

Answer #22

If you want to save your friend, you should tell his parents. even tell them not to say it was you, unless your the only one who knows. in which case, idk what to say but tell em.

Answer #23

it alright thank you for trying to help and giving the best advice you could

Answer #24

@ trudell ill most likely tell them but he will know it was me but ive dealt with a situation like this before and he eventually forgave me so maybe this time he will as well

Answer #25

Well does he have any other close friends that you know personally and he told them about his visions maybe they have ideas or plans that could help you.

Answer #26

Good luck !

Answer #27

Yeah I am with Trudell

Answer #28

I don’t know a lot about religion, but I do know that in the olden days, people did fear God- simply because they believed that God controlled everything (their crops going bad, their children dying of plague, etc). Many people have brought this custom into the 21st century. But in the case of your friend- I do think he needs help.

Answer #29

yup

Answer #30

you should not fear him just obey his commandments, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, would a God that loves us this much want you to be scared of him, he loves you, he his your father, look at God the way u would look at a parents love for there children, it is no different!!

Answer #31

What one of the pastor’s at my church said, before when I still went, is that we all fear god. Fear in a way that is respect.

Answer #32

I know that Christians are suppose to fear god out of respect but my friend fears him a little to much

Answer #33

yes because he gives and takes away. If he wanted to he could make you stop breathing, but since he is a God of love and mercy he doesnt. God is God and he is the only one we should fear.

Answer #34

It sounds like he has a mental illness maybe. Alot of people suffer from it but don’t know it. Hallucinations, hearing voices, paranoia and fear of god all fits into it I think you should try to help him cause it doesn’t sound like he’s well enough to do it himself. He needs to be assessed by a mental health professional.

Answer #35

He really believes it’s real because it is real to him. you probably won’t be able to convince him that he might be help. He’ll need to be forced into it and it’s only if he’s a danger to himself or others. I don’t think it’s alcohol abuse that’s causing this. I think this is causing the alcohol abuse. Mental illness and substance abuse often go together. I’m not an expert but my dad does suffer from schizophrenia and he was just like your friend before he got help. ( forced help because he did not realize he was sick) He lives a normal life today with the proper medications and therapy. I got my dad back. try calling a crisi line or visiting a mental health clinic cause they’re trained to deal with this and could probably give you better advice. Good luck and God bless you for helping your friend.

Answer #36

YES! There taught to fear God. They believe in Hell and that that’s where their soul will end up if they sin. I’d be scared too if I believed that. But there is a line between fear and paranoia. Your friend has crossed that line.

Answer #37

please dont say god bless, it offends me because i do not believe in god.

Answer #38

“i want to recommend him to a psychologist but he swears it happening and i dont think he will ever go”

Rose, maybe if you suggest it he would go to consult with a priest or a pastor instead? Many of them have training and experience in pastoral (psychospiritual) counseling. In fact, with a little online research, you might be able to identify someone suitable in his locale to refer him to, if he doesn’t already have a relationship with someone like that.

Answer #39

alright thank you

Answer #40

we r supposed to fear God because yes He can extinguish our life at any second bt ur friend needs to also remember that He loves us n He gives us the privilege of life so we can learn about Him and love Him n be grateful for the things we are given. fear is only meant as in to remember who He is and our place in this world so we can respect Him

Answer #41

Not fear as in be afraid of Him, fear as in fear what doors will open if he isn’t protecting u bcus u sinned! :D He can not fully protect u if u don’t fear him, in other words not fearing him = don’t care abt obeying him cus u just think he will 4give u 2moro. Yes “The fear of the Lord is the begining of knowledge.” The other half “but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”… :D Hope I helped! =DD
