My friend offered to let me ride her horse, I don't know what to do

I just started riding english this summer. I ride at the same barn as one of my close friends, a much more experienced rider. I used to dance competitively and practice everyday, but I quit this year. I really lobe riding and want to do it more often than my parents allow, which is once a week. My friend’s family (her, her mom, and her sister, all of whom ride) have 2 horses and my friend has her own pony. My friend has offered to let me ride one of her horses (Bonnie) with her and her pony on days that I don’t have a lesson. I have ridden Bonnie before (in 2nd grade, just walking and trotting while being led). She’s a big horse, but I would be totally comfortable riding her. I don’t know if I should accept my friends offer. It seams really generous, and I don’t want to take advantage of her. Also, I don’t know if the owner of the barn and my parents would feel comfortable with the idea. Please help me, I really want to but don’t want to be a burden. What should I do?

Well, you gotta ask your parents for permission…if they give it, then go for it…the more you ride, the better you get…

take it! you are really lucky to get a chance like that, especially since you havnt really been riding very long. The owner of the barn wont mind and your parents shouldnt either as long as its a safe horse. YOu wouldnt be a burden to your friend but if you feel guilty maybe you could offer to help take care of her horse and equipment to repay her.

Answer #3

ask her if shes sure, shell probably say yes and then take it, I dont think your parents would be angry or uncomfortable with it or anything. the owner of the barn should be fine because its your friends horse, the barn owner cant make decisions for your friend it should be fine :)

I think you should deffo go for it. you wont be taking advantage of her if she offered. besides, your riding will progress so much quicker.. so what if you are still being led, not everyone cn jump 4ft fences. I have been riding for 7 years, I wish I had had the opportunity to ride a friends horse.

I recently got my own two horses, but I was never offered to ride a friends horse, if I had have done, I think would have progressed much quicker and maybe got my own horses a bit earlier, good luck, hope I helped.

have fun riding its great (: x

I had fed, boarded, turned out 15- out of a 30 stall barn. These all were beutiful, very well taken care of animals. If yor close frienf offered, and this horse knows you, ride it. As long as he hasent thrown anyone recently? Say, your mom & dad said alright,, a day or two before you get on this animal,, take him/orher sweet feed and feed it out of your hands, get a little personal w the horse before you mount him, that type relationship can go a long way later! It would do her the favor of sombody working her horse for her. And sombody to keep her company while riding.
