my close friend's dad just died, I don't know what to do.

The dad of a very close friend of mine just died, she’s 21 and graduating from college in about a month, I don’t know what to do. I’ve never dealt with this kind of situation before and I feel very awkward and intrusive if I call her or my other friend who knew him well. I am 5 hours away from home and won’t be able to make it to her for about a week. I feel terrible I can’t be there at this moment, but I don’t know what to do otherwise. Any advice about what to do considering I’ve never been through this before?

Answer #1

A card is a good idea. Extra phone calls might help, too. Your friend will let you know if you are intruding. Just making yourself as available to her as possible will let her know that you care. Death affects everyone differently. Since this girl is your close friend, you probably knew her Dad well, too. It might be good for you, as well as her, to connect more often over the next couple of weeks.I hope things go well for both of You! Happy Easter!

Answer #2

send her a card expressing your sorrow in her loss…you dont have to say much, just her knowing that you are there and care is enough.
