My 2yr old son doesnt talk

I’m a mother of a 2 yr old little boy .I have a problem he doesnt say anything ,but he understands everything he knows all his body parts, He points at stuff when I ask him to or I will say pick up your blue truck & he will get it. I will say ok lets go bye bye he will put his clothes and toys away , shut off his tv and point at the light for me to shut it off. I don’t know why words wont come out. Anyone have any answers of why this might be?

I dont know if its normal or not, but I started talking at 4 and a half. So yeah, it may be normal, it may not. But if you really are worried, it may pay to see someone about it.

From my experience boys can often be late developers with speech. It sounds like you are doing everything right and he is being stimulated. He may just start talking a little later on. I am sure this is what it may be.

It may be a good idea to see your doctor though. There are more and more cases of Austism. My friends little boy is austistic and he was not diagnosed until four. His speech was delayed, and they werent sure why. He had behavourial problems too though. I am not sure if that is a direct factor from being autistic or just in his nature. Now that he has been diagnosed he is going excellent and he is talking and has started school.

My cousin didn’t start talking until she was 4. The doctors thought she was going to be mute because she never said anything at all. Then one day she walked into the kitchen and said, ‘Mommy, can I have some milk, please?’ lol It was pretty amusing, she spoke from then on. Now she’s 11 and has a 12th grade reading level, can name every historical person of importance and what they did in the past! Doctors consider her a genius! She even helped me with a calculus problem when she was 7…and she was right! lol

Every child develops at their own pace. As long as you see that he isn’t ‘behind’ with other things, like him understanding what you say, then I think he’ll be fine.

Some children are simply late in their learning of speech and language skills. But it’s important to evaluate why the delay is occurring, and once this is figured out to determine what, if anything, should be done about it. Delayed speech can occur even with the most capable parenting - it’s not a reflection of parenting skills (usually).

It could be anything from an ear infection, to autism, to just quite a common delayed speech problem. Just get him checked out.
