My sister and I want to know what the proper English for this phrase is:

Bob & Grace’s deck OR Bob’s & Grace’s deck

She says it is the first way and I say it’s the second.

An English teacher would tell you that each participle should stand on it’s own. Since you would not say “Bob deck”, but you would say “Bob’s deck”, the latter is correct.

However, English is a common language owned by the people rather than by English teachers. If we collectively tend to say “Bob and Grace’s”, then that is correct regardless of what an English teacher tells you.

Yes it would look that way but remember that you are dealing with possesive phrases. When you spell it that way it says that Bob owns an and, and Grace owns a deck.

The first one is correct because Bob and Grace are plural nouns. Which means they would be considered a group otherwise it would have to be two different decks.
