Is my Fire bellied toad dying?

I have two fire bellied toads. And one of them just sits in the water and I noticed recently that it’s throat does not go up and down like the other one. I have had them for about three years. I feed them crickets about every other day. Should I be worried about my fire fire bellied toad dying? And if so what should I do?

I use to work at a pet store. I worked in small animal and fish dept. I handle fire belly toads. I love this topic… Has your frogs ever layed eggs ?? You would know if they did cause they lay about 200 eggs at a time. It is possible that one might be a female and the other is a male.

Male and female Fire Belly Toads are not easy to distinguish between. Both reach an average length of 5.5 to 6 inches and though the males tend to be a bit chunkier looking, with thicker forearms and rougher or wartier backs, the only time they can really be completely distinguished from one another is during their mating season. At this time, the male will have black nuptial pads on his fingers and forearms. Sometimes you can sex Fire Belly Toads by observing their behavior with one another. If a Fire Belly jumps on the back of another, he can generally be classified as male. If the toad who is beneath the first toad reacts in such a way as to dispense of the first toad, chances are that this toad is male as well. However, if the Toad is not immediately rejected, there is a high probability that the Toad is female. The true sex of the Fire Belly Toad cannot be certainly determined until the toad under question is sexually mature.

You do know that the average lifespan ranges from 10 to 20 years, though some individuals can live considerably longer. So unless you have not been taking very good care of them he should not die any time soon.

sprinkle you insects with calcium powder the next time you feed them. This might help him boost up his energy a little.

Keep The water in your tank at about 70 to 75 deg. I hope I helped good luck fun mail me if you have any other questions !!!
