Yes it's a fruit, but ... not all vegetables have to be uprooted - with many vegetables, we use the parts that grow above the ground: spinach, cabbage, broccoli (sorry if I've hit on the ones you dislike!), peas, beans, asparagus...
The main point was mentioned above: the olive is the fruit of the olive tree, with the seed (pit) inside it that is meant to make a new olive tree. As with apples, pears, peaches, but also avocadoes and sweet peppers, for example. Fruits don't have to be sweet or juicy.
its a fruit cause all fruit grows on trees or bushes even though it tastes like a vegetable, its really not pretty unbelieveable... right.
